The people have spoken and the votes tabulated for the fifth annual Virtual Vallarta Readers' Choice awards. The big restaurant winner this year was Daiquiri Dick's on Los Muertos Beach, picking up seven 1st place prizes, including Best Overall, Most Fun, and Best Service, which is a Readers' Choice record.
"We're really excited, we think it has been an incredible response," says Tari Bowman, Owner, Daiquiri Dick's, "We worked really hard to earn it, and we couldn't be more pleased."
Their other enterprise, The Deli, also captured first place for Best Catering. There are close to fifty categories and around 12,000 votes were cast. All of this is done online and organizers let each person vote only one time.
"I think it's good for the community for a couple of reasons," says Paco Ojeda, Lifestyles Magazine Editor, "First, it gets average people, like you and I, involved in expressing our opinion about what we like the best. Secondly, it makes restaurant owners aware of the fact that the people's opinion is valuable."
Encompassing almost 50 categories, ranging from the best restaurants and live music venues to the best health clubs and art galleries, the response has steadily increased in the past few years, generating excitement for both the public and the businesses.
Patrons are pleased to have an easy way to spread the good word about the places they have found to be exceptional, and local businesses doing all the right things are delighted, because it keeps them from getting lost in the shuffle.
